I have been moderately successful over the years growing citrus plants inside. Maybe I should define success when growing plants like this inside. I have had my fair share of challenges when growing citrus plants inside. I had dealt with aphids, scale, and mealy bugs. Usually by the time springs rolls around the poor plants have lost most of their leaves but they come back after a warm summer outside on the front porch. I usually get some fruit every year.
I don't know this year. My lemon plant did not put on any flowers for fruit and the leaves have almost all fallen off since I have brought the plant inside. I kinda have a guess why it didn't put on any fruit during the summer. I think it is because the fruit from the previous season took so long to rippen that it didn't have the energy to put on new fruit. I am stumped by the leaves falling so soon. I don't think I am over watering the plant and it doesn't appear to have any bugs (which is a first). Every time the cats jump on the board it sits on more leaves shake loose. I was supposed to fertilize it at the end of September but I totally forgot to do that. I don't think there is any correlation between the two.
The decision becomes do I try and limp along till spring or toss it and start fresh. As of today, I am going to limp along a little longer. If the plant is even worse by February, I am going to toss it and buy a new one when Fort Collins Nursery puts them on sale.
