Pleasantly Surprised

It has been about 5 1/2 weeks since the hail storm and I have been pleasantly surprised by how well the yard and garden areas are doing.  If you had asked me right after the storm what the yard would have looked like at this point, I am sure it would have doom and gloom.

I have learned a few things after the storm that I need to remember for the future.

  1. I survived and I will survive another event like this
  2. All plants in pots must be moved to the front porch or under the pine trees.  The plants I moved up against the house on the north and northeast side were not protected.
  3. If I go on vacation, I need to put as many pots as possible on front porch.
  4. I will have extra tomato and pepper plants growing in pots.  Tomatoes at the farmer's market are expensive.
  5. I need to take pictures throughout the growing season to document how nice everything look
Catalpa tree has all new leaves.  Other trees put on no new leaves or a few on the tips of branches

Catalpa tree did reflower some.  Not as heavy as the spring, but not good.

Blue spirea had branches stripped but has some new regrowth

Roses are re-blooming
Garden has filled back in.  I have had broccoli, zucchini, squash and 3 tomatoes

Trellis full at back of garden
Sunflowers came back
