Favorite Flower Container

Each year I have a favorite container of flowers that I planted in the spring.  I never know what it is going to be. It is always a surprise (it is a surprise that I can put something together that I like and looks good all season.) Last year it was the container on the front porch with the eggplant.  I planted almost the same plants in that container this year and it didn't look as good.  Actually, it has already been pulled up for the year.

This year's favorite is the flowers in the large colander.  I found the colander years ago at a flea market and it is perfect for the table on the back patio. Depending on the year, I may plant all of the same flowers or I try and mix it up.  This year I mixed it up and it worked.  It primarily worked because of the pincushion flowers.  I found them at the Denver Botanic Garden's spring plant sale.  It is one of those plants that I can't decide if I have seen them at other garden centers or not.  Regardless, I need to be on the look out next year for these flowers.  I wasn't sure about the color when I originally bought them and everything goes together and blooms at the same time. Total fluke!  Now I am trying to decide if I can collect the seed and sow them next year in the vegetable garden.
