The Case of the Mysterious Artichoke

I usually try to plant one or two artichokes every year in my vegetable garden.  Some years they are harder to find or sell out faster so I was lucky to find some this year and I knew exactly where I wanted in the garden and I knew it would perfect.  It started out slow but finally took off mid summer.  It is a beautiful plant but there are no flowers.  I keep looking down into the center of it and there is nothing.  It is my understanding that they need to go through so many hours below a certain temperature to produce a flower.  I would assume the grower would do this before they went to the garden centers, but maybe I am wrong.  My luck it will try and flower in October.

Nothing!!
