Seeds are started. I splurged this year and bought new trays and cells.
I started the usual suspects - tomatoes, eggplant and broccoli. No peppers this year. You can buy bigger plants at the nurseries versus what I can start at home.
Tomatoes
- Bubble Bee Blend - The packet from Botanical Interests includes three different varieties/colors and the seed is purposely colored, but you need a magnifying glass to identify each of the different colors. Plus they were a little skimpy on the pink and purple varieties. Yes, this was an impulse purchase.
- Brandywine - I have not grown a Brandywine tomato in probably 10 years. I already know it is going to taste so yummy.
- Cherokee Purple - Can't beat this tomato
- German Pink - Another great tomato. I was thinking there is not a bad tasting tomato, but that is not true. I have had some that were bland and too meaty.
- Hungarian Heart - Also known as "HH". I have tried an orange version of the oxheart tomato, but the red it the best.
- San Marzano - Best tomato for my tomato and bacon jam.
- Sun Gold - You should always grow one cherry tomato because it will always produce first and fill that need for the first tomato of the summer without waiting too long.
Eggplant
- Antigua - small purple (actually lavender streaked). Eggplant are tricky and I have had the best luck with these. Last year I kept the walls of water on them all season to see if they produced more. My test was inconclusive so I will try again this year and see what happens.
- Casper - white eggplant. I can never find a white variety at the greenhouses so I start them on my own.
Broccoli
- Di Cicco - This is the best broccoli. Such a silly statement, but broccoli from the garden is so much better than the broccoli from the grocery store.
- Summer Purple - I started this one last year and I am not sure the spears ever turned purple so I am going to try it one more year. If it doesn't work, then it is dead to me.
Tomatillo
- Purple - This is the last year I am putting any effort into growing tomatillos. There are a challenge to start. I think I skipped trying to start them from seed last year and bought a plant instead. It was the most beautiful plant with no tomatillos.

So there is no confusion, I marked the new trays with nail polish |

Soon, so soon! |

Their happy home until summer. Yes, I did paint the bedroom. |
