I have one big rule when it comes to gardening. I do not plant annuals until Memorial Weekend. I have only broken that rule twice. Both times I have paid the price. The first time was the year of the tornado and the second time was yesterday. Afternoon storms are common in Colorado and most of the time it just blows and sprinkles. Everything just gets dirty. Yesterdays storm was uneventful till the last couple minutes where it totally changed and it hailed hard for several minutes. It shredded the leaves on the tree, anything blooming is gone and my annuals have don't look so good. I couldn't do anything about it but watch in horror. The sad thing this is the second hail storm this month. The first one was Mother's Day and it was hard enough to shred the leaves on the trees. I hope this is not the trend for the summer because I won't make it. I don't want to spend my summer in tears. Luckily I had taken pictures the night before so I will enjoy those until my plants perk back up.
