Last year at the Denver Botanic Garden's plant sale, I bought a couple of Berkheya purpurea plants. It is described online as a thistle. I assumed it was an annual in my zone. Just as it was staring to bloom, the hail storm wiped all of the plants and I assumed that was the end of that. I was wrong. One of the plants survived and it is blooming. I am so excited. Obviously it is much hardier than I realized.

Not a plant you can touch. It is very prickly. |
